Why do you love UCI?
I appreciate the outpour of friendship and community that exists at the school. Transferring from my previous university was a long-awaited decision filled with as much excitement as there was nervousness. It’s why I can’t help but feel so much gratitude for the warm welcome I received from my new friends, professors, and advisors here at UC Irvine—all in just my first couple months. Truth be told, there’s a lot still for me to know and get familiar with, but I hope my position as a Peer Academic Advisor will allow me to give back to my fellow undergraduates! The student body at UC Irvine fosters a spirit for diversity, justice, and compassion—and I feel lucky to be a part of it all.
How can you be a successful Anteater?
A successful Anteater strives to balance their peace with the demands of an academic life that rarely slows down. The quarter system is a daunting task, and even though I’m still new, I find it plays a critical role in an Anteater’s experience. A lot of responsibilities and expectations—ever changing and adapting—ride on our shoulders. But, for all its difficulties, I’ve learned that college is also our enduring lesson on how to put ourselves first in face of it all. Life goes on even in failure and uncertainty! It’s a lot—but true success is finding the courage to trust yourself first and foremost. Ask for help as often as possible and ask the same question over and over until you understand. It’ll be okay!
What is one fun fact about yourself?
I love creative writing, sending letters, and building my stationery collection! I currently have one pen pal here in California, and another in New Mexico.
